Re: A Senate public bill — an independent Canadian nuclear deterrent
Hello, Senator,
I wrote to you on 29 August about a Senate public bill on an independent Canadian deterrent. I wrote again on 30 August about 1 request to the Parliamentary Budget Officer. 21 days have passed without an answer to either.
The record has moved without the Senate.
On 18 September the Department of National Defence released 3 files to me under the Access to Information Act: A-2026-01143, A-2026-01144 and A-2026-01154. They cover how far allied guarantees can be relied on and whether they bind. The Department's own costing of an independent Canadian deterrent and of latency is in there. So are the briefings prepared for the Minister on the withdrawal of another state's umbrella, and the nuclear certification of the aircraft Canada is buying. The Department also holds the defence plan for an armed attack on Canada under paragraph 6(1)(a) of the Emergencies Act.
The executive has the analysis. The Senate has been asked for the question.
3 things, by 1 October 2026.
1. Introduce the bill, or name the Senator who will
2. Put the costing question to the Parliamentary Budget Officer, which costs you 1 request
3. Put your name among the 5 supporters the petition needs before filing. The entry takes a name and an email addressA refusal in writing is an answer and will be recorded as one. Silence from 29 August is the entry that stands now.
Respectfully,
Danilo Dzyuban
