House of Commons, three party leaders and critics
A written question under Standing Order 39, and a written position: vote as on 26 October 2022.

To Pierre Poilievre, Leader of the Official Opposition — the Crown in Canada and the sovereignty of Canada
Hello,
You lead the Official Opposition. On 26 October 2022 you voted No in Vote No. 199, on the motion that the House express its desire to sever ties between the Canadian State and the British monarchy. On 29 September 2026 a brief on the Crown in Canada and the sovereignty of Canada went to the Clerk of the Committee, with a request for a study under Standing Order 108(2). I do not live in your riding.
In 2025 and 2026 the President of the United States called for Canada to become the 51st state again and again. On 24 August 2026 the Vice-President said: "We have to remember Canada is a state." On 23 September 2026 the Prime Minister told The New York Times he had prepared for the "extreme tail risk" of American military action against Canada.
In the same 2 years the King received the President at Windsor Castle. On 28 April 2026, at the state dinner in the White House, the King reminded him in jest that he is the head of state of Canada. The Northwood Declaration of the United Kingdom and France does not name Canada. The joint statement of Australia and Canada of 5 March 2026 names neither the United States nor the sovereignty of Canada. On 15 May 2025 The Round Table recorded that the Commonwealth Secretary-General had issued no statement of solidarity with Canada. No published instrument obliges the government of any other realm of the King to answer a nuclear attack on Canada with any particular action. New citizens of Canada swear allegiance to the King, his heirs and his successors.
On 29 September 2026 requests under the Access to Information Act went to the Privy Council Office, Global Affairs Canada, the Department of Canadian Heritage and Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada. They ask what the Government of Canada asked of the King, of the Royal Household and of the governments of the United Kingdom, Australia and New Zealand after 7 January 2025, and what was answered. They ask for the record behind the words "served to reaffirm Canada's sovereignty" in the material of the Department of Canadian Heritage for the appearance of its Minister before the Standing Committee on Canadian Heritage on 5 May 2026, and for the authority for the oath of citizenship now administered. The answers are due on 29 October 2026.
The record, with its sources and a checksum for each capture, is at https://dzyuban.com/reformation/.
2 acts are open to you, and each takes a yes or a no.
Put a written question on the Order Paper under Standing Order 39, with the Government's answer due within 45 days. It asks the Government to name any instrument that binds the United Kingdom, Australia or any other realm of the King to take any particular action if Canada is attacked. It also asks for every statement of solidarity with Canada issued by those governments or by the Commonwealth Secretariat since 7 January 2025.
State in writing whether the Conservative caucus, if the same motion is put to the House again, will vote as it voted on 26 October 2022, and whether it will support the study requested in the brief of 29 September 2026.
Answer by 14 October 2026, in either official language. A refusal in writing is an answer and is recorded as one. Silence is recorded as silence, under your name and riding, beside your vote of 26 October 2022.
Respectfully,
Danilo Dzyuban

To Heather McPherson, critic for foreign affairs and heritage — the Crown in Canada and the sovereignty of Canada
Hello,
The New Democratic Party names you its critic for foreign affairs and for heritage. On 26 October 2022 the House negatived the motion that the House express its desire to sever ties between the Canadian State and the British monarchy, 266 to 44, in Vote No. 199. You did not vote.
